This May, a pair of McLaren MP4-12C supercars with world championship pedigree will take center stage at one of the world’s most refined automotive showcases: the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. For collectors with a taste for exclusivity, provenance, and performance, the inaugural Broad Arrow Auction presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to own the very McLarens personally specified and driven by Formula One titans Sir Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty company, will present both cars at the iconic Lake Como estate, elevating the already rare MP4-12C to mythical status. These machines are more than mere collectibles—they are tangible extensions of modern motorsport greatness.
Unveiled in 2010, the MP4-12C marked McLaren’s triumphant return to the road car world since the iconic F1. Engineered with a 592-horsepower twin-turbo V8 and McLaren’s signature innovation in aerodynamics and carbon composite technology, the 12C was a signal fire—announcing that the marque was once again ready to challenge the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
But what truly set the MP4-12C apart was its development process, heavily informed by two of McLaren’s own F1 drivers at the time: Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Their direct input shaped everything from the tactile “click” of the paddle-shifters to the compact design of the steering wheel. These were not just endorsements—they were architects.
Hamilton’s model, chassis number SBM11AAB4CW000132, is a bespoke marvel in Volcano Red with a Harissa Red and Black Alcantara interior. Configured in Woking and delivered to his Monaco residence, the car became an extension of Hamilton’s identity both on and off the track—even making a cameo in a Cannes music video shoot with Swizz Beatz.
With just 8,500 kilometers on the clock, it features early-generation touches like swipe-to-open doors and a custom-tinted window package. It’s not just a car—it’s a capsule of a championship era.
Button’s Pearl White model, chassis number SBM11AAB4CW000764, is as refined as the man himself. Outfitted with an interior of Harissa Red and Black leather and finished with carbon fibre detailing, it’s a study in quiet power. Supplied via McLaren Monaco, this second MP4-12C was his personal spec after the first was returned to the factory for ongoing development.
Having remained in a UK private collection, meticulously serviced, and driven fewer than 12,000 kilometers, the car retains its grace—and gravity.
“These two McLaren MP4-12Cs are unicorns in the automotive world,” said Joe Twyman, VP of Sales for Broad Arrow’s EMEA Region. “Their ownership and configuration by two of the most successful F1 champions of our time make them museum-worthy. But they were also driven, lived in, and loved. That makes them real.”
The auction will run May 24–25, 2025, at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Bidders won’t just be chasing horsepower—they’ll be chasing heritage.
